Stained and mirrored glass, ceramic plates, 2023
I am honored to have been invited to take part in this project. This terrible tragedy is one among so many in this country that often leave me feeling hopeless. But being able to create a piece of art to honor the victims and give them voice, and to do it as part of a community of artists whose passion for mosaics I share, is a gift.
While the words in this piece are not my own, they capture the essence of the work we need to do to make change Speak out~ In my piece, I used the Star of David to frame this powerful message. It is somewhat askew, as is the world we live in. Blue and white, the colors that symbolize the Jewish people, make up most of the design with gold creating the star and the words. The eleven gold squares in the background represent each person whose life was cut short, but still shines bright in the hearts of those left behind.
